Hospital Specialty Raises the Bar (And The Lid) with New Hands-Free Waste Receptacle

Smart Can™, a revolutionary, patented hands-free waste receptacle, is being introduced for the sanitary supply market by Hospital Specialty, leaders in personal care products.

Powered by four “D” batteries, Smart Can™ uses an infrared sensor that automatically opens the lid when a person’s hand is within 8 inches of the top and closes it once a person walks away. Smart Can™ eliminates the need to touch a lid or open a trash container with just-washed hands.

Smart Can™ is ideal for any washroom environment in restaurants, office buildings, hotels and motels, shopping malls, schools and universities and military installations. It is also the ideal solution for patrons with disabilities who may not be able to easily open or reach conventional waste receptacles.

Smart Can™ is available in three sizes: 5.3 gallon (ideal for use a as feminine hygiene receptacle), 7.1 gallon and a new 12.5 gallon stainless steel model. For disposal, the Smart Can™ lid can be easily lifted out and the garbage bag inside the pail disposed of in the usual manner. The sensor can be disengaged by simply turning off the unit using an “on/off” button on the back of the lid.
